The International Regional Magazine Association (IRMA), a group founded in 1960 and representing more than 30 publications in the United States and Canada, recently bestowed honors to Kentucky Monthly magazine for its August 2013 story “Freedom Fight – The Crusade Against Modern-Day Slavery” by writer Ron Soodalter.
The feature story—which highlighted the efforts of Kentucky legislators, attorneys, law enforcement officials and anti-trafficking task forces—took home an award of merit in the IRMA Awards’ public issue category. Read the story HERE.
“We wanted to raise awareness about the horror of human trafficking, from which, unfortunately, our state is not immune. We’re grateful that IRMA has recognized our efforts, giving further support to those who crusade against this heinous crime and seek to provide care for victims,” said Steve Vest, publisher and editor-in-chief of Kentucky Monthly. “We’re also grateful that Ron Soodalter, who co-wrote a book about modern-day slavery in America [The Slave Next Door], chose to share his talent and expertise with our readers.”
