Maintaining a healthy heart doesn`t mean you need to cut flavor from your diet. There are plenty of dishes that are just as tasty as they are good for you.
Kentucky Monthly`s health and fitness correspondent Shellie Wingate offers up the following recipes that feature antioxidants, vitamins, fiber, omega-3 fatty acids and monounsaturated fats-all proven to be cardio-friendly. So take care of your ticker by trying one or more of these guilt-free, easy-to-make recipes.
Lean Meatloaf Patties
Serving size: 4
1 pound lean ground beef (93/7 or leaner; ground turkey breast or ground chicken breast can be substituted)
1 egg white
½ cup instant oatmeal
½ cup green bell pepper, chopped
½ cup onion, chopped
Salt and pepper
1. Preheat grill or oven for broiling.
2. Mix all ingredients thoroughly, except salt and pepper.
3. Divide meat mixture into 4 sections and shape each section into a patty. Lightly salt and pepper each side of patty.
4. Grill or broil on each side for 4 to 6 minutes or until thoroughly cooked.
