Ahhh, the Emerald Isle! Whether or not Americans are of Irish heritage, they are fascinated by the land known for its pubs, potatoes and heartfelt ballads. Simpsonville resident Viki Pidgeon has written I Is for Ireland: An Alphabetical Tour to educate readers about the country’s rich heritage and culture.
While most of us have heard about the land’s beauty, Pidgeon introduces audiences to other cultural icons, such as the Book of Kells, round towers, and the importance of oyster season. Readers will discover Ireland’s connection to the Titanic disaster, why June 16 is known as Bloomsday, and other lesser known bits of Irish history.
Illustrated by Bellarmine University graduate Heather Drury, I Is for Ireland is a terrific primer.
